Three fathers and three sons recently joined Craig on a terrific missions trip to the Dominican Republic. The team had 2 primary work projects: 1. Painting and concrete work at Grace Christian school in Herrera, a slum community in the capital of Santo Domingo. 2. Building new cinder-block walls and classroom space at a small village school 2 hours outside the capital. We all learned new skills, some new words in Spanish, and made some new friends. It was fulfilling to accomplish the work we had been asked to do, but the deepest impact was in relationships. The camaraderie with Dominican co-workers and school staff, and periodic baseball games with local kids, was a highlight for each of the dads and sons. Working next to each other and experiencing a new culture together was an adventure none of the dads and sons will forget. The next Peregrine Missions trip will be a men's work team to the DR, Nov. 15-22. |
